How to Compress FCPX Files for Vimeo
Couple days ago, Dick Walters ask me in the comment about the FCPX compression settings for Vimeo. We know that Vimeo offers compression suggestions for FCP7, but how about FCPX? As what Dick has said, “the FCPX share option for Vimeo is lame and there does not appear to be any way of changing the parameters in Share from the presets.” Yes, Dick was right, that FCP X doesn’t describe the settings it is using for Vimeo.
So, the question here is how to compress FCPX files for Vimeo. To answer Dick’s question, I went to the Vimeo website to look up their specs: http://vimeo.com/help/compression. As they don’t provide a tutorial for FCPX, I checked the Vimeo settings in Doremisoft Mac XAVC Converter and they look like a perfect match for what Vimeo needs. Considering that this converter is very easy-to-use with great video quality kept, here I recommend it to you:
Here are the steps to compress FCPX files for Vimeo:
Step 1: Import the FCPX file to the converter
Download, install and run the FCPX to Vimeo Compressor, then click “Add Files” button to load the source video file. No format problem should be worried about, since the converter support virtually all video formats. You can even use it to compress XAVC to Vimeo!
Step 2: Specify output settings
Now hit the “Convert to” menu bar, then follow “Web share” > “Vimeo(*.mp4)” to set the output video format.
Yes, you can customize the detailed output video parameters in the “Settings” menu, such as changing the video resolution. My recommendation is to size your files to 720p. This allows you to improve image quality with a higher bit rate, without creating the massively bigger files of 1080p.
Step 3: Convert FCPX to Vimeo
When you finish the settings, just press the the big blue button on the lower right to start the compression. According to the file size of the source video and the computer performance, the compression may last for a while. After the compression, you will get an
output video perfectly fits the Vimeo with great quality. Now feel free to have a try!
